Policy Type: LACNIC
Id: LAC-2013-1
Last version: 1
Presented at: LACNIC 20, LACNIC 21, LACNIC 22 Presentations:

Summary

Lacnic currently publishes information on the IP addresses it assigns, including, among others, the country to which each block was assigned. This information is available at ftp://ftp.lacnic.net/pub/stats/lacnic/delegated-lacnic-latest.
This proposal seeks to expand the information published by Lacnic in order to include the blocks reassigned by the organizations receiving the IP address blocks from Lacnic.

Rationale

Many institutions take the file published at ftp://ftp.lacnic.net/pub/stats/lacnic/delegated-lacnic-latest and use it to geolocalize IP addresses, which results in localization faults when those IP addresses have been reassigned, for example, to a corporate subsidiary located in a different country. This problem occurs because this ftp file does not show the information corresponding to reassigned IP addresses.

Text

The information on the blocks assigned by Lacnic and the assignments made by the entities receiving these address blocks from Lacnic shall be published via ftp. The information to be published shall only include the country, IP version, IP block, ASN, and assignment date, as it currently appears on the file located at
ftp://ftp.lacnic.net/pub/stats/lacnic/delegated-lacnic-latest.
